SERVICE The Service Committee is the liaison between the club and GTA service organizations. The committee organizes fundraising events, as well as the collection of children’s books, toiletries for shelters, rescue bags for victims of human trafficking, blankets for children in need, and provides other goods and services to non-profit organizations.
PROGRAM The Program Chair, along with her committee, is responsible for choosing and planning the programs for the Club’s in-house meetings. These programs vary from history, flower design, cooking demonstrations, singers, etc. Program provides fun and intellectually stimulating speakers for the membership.
VISITING/TELEPHONE The Visiting/Telephone Committee arrange visits to members who are ill or bereaved. The committee also sends flowers and cards at appropriate times and it also responsible for the In Touch article in the club newsletter.
SPECIAL EVENTS The Special Events Committee, under the direction of the Chair, arranges all events that require a contract with an outside venue. This includes the coordination of all details relating to these events, such as the Thanksgiving and Spring Luncheons. Occasionally, Special Events works with other committees for in-house general meetings.
HOSPITALITY The Hospitality Chair and her committee is responsible for set-up and take down at Heintzman House. This involves beverage service, side dishes (donated by members) and any other preparation that might be involved. Hospitality works alongside other committees to complete these tasks. At the opening and closing business meetings, the committee makes arrangements for a catered lunch.
PRINTING The Printing Chair is responsible for production of the Year Book/Directory each Fall, name tags for members, as well as programs for outside events.
MEMBERSHIP Membership’s mandate is recruitment and retention of members, and to welcome new members using tools such as email, events and personalized invitations. The committee’s efforts for recruitment may involve posts on social media, contact with viable organizations and the U.S. Consulate General. The committee keeps all members’ contact details up to date.
NEWSLETTER/PUBLIC RELATIONS The Chair of the Newsletter/Public Relations Committee is responsible for gathering, editing and publishing the club newsletter five times/year. The Chair and her committee also arrange for news releases and other forms of public relations for specific events. The Chair’s committee proofreads the newsletter, making sure all information is correct, and coordinates advertisement in the Newsletter.
WEBSITE (awcto.org) The AWCTO website has two primary objectives. The first is to have a public presence as a longstanding organization to enable Americans in the Greater Toronto Area to find us. The second is to serve the members as a resource for membership renewals, event information and registration, member directory, event photos, calendar and newsletters in an up-to-date manner.
