The American Women’s Club of Toronto has a long and fascinating history that dates back 100 years. In 1917, Mrs. Thomas Wylie — an American living in Toronto — was in a Toronto hospital giving birth to her first child. She found support and comfort from Mrs. Susie Falvey, the hospital matron who was also an American. Their friendship led to the idea of forming a club specifically for American women living in Toronto. AWCT was started with only fifteen women.
